Sukhminder Singh Virk Running in British Columbia’s Provincial Election

VANCOUVER, BC, Canada—Sukhminder Singh Virk officially became the candidate for the BC Liberal Party in the riding of Surrey-Newton on February 3.
Surrey-Newton is the riding with the highest Sikh population in the Province of British Columbia.  Notable Sikh centers such as Khalsa School and Guru Nanak Sikh Gurdwara are located in the riding of Surrey-Newton.
Sukhminder Singh Virk was recently a committee member of Guru Nanak Sikh Gurdwara, being a part of the first Sikh Youth committee of that Gurdwara, accomplishing many important milestones for the community, including overseeing relief work in Haiti, promoting environmentalism, interfaith dialogue, among other things.
British Columbia has the highest proportion of Sikhs out of any province or state in North America, yet no Kesh Dhari or Amrit Dhari Sikh has ever been elected to British Columbia’s provincial legislature.  Sukhminder Singh’s candidacy offers an opportunity for the Sikh community to change that.
