Gurbani based “Rog Niwaran Camp” To Commence in British Columbia

SURREY, BC, Canada—The “Rog Niwaran Camp” will commence today in Surrey, BC, Canada.  The seminar is being organized by the sewadaars of the recent “Sikhs and Shasters” seminar, Bhai Onkar Singh Khalsa of the Khalsa Sewa Dal and Khalsa School Surrey. The Camp will be running from Monday January 7 to Friday January 11, 2013, 6:30pm to 8:30pm sharp each evening at Khalsa School Newton in Surrey, BC. Each session will combine alternative medicine techniques and Gurmat thoughts to the treat ailments. Some ailments include diabetes, high blood pressure, obesity, headaches, joint pain, spinal disc problems, and heart problems.

Khalsa Sewa Dal was created in 1990 by Sardar Amritpal Singh and focused on Gatka. Later on, his student, Bhai Onkar Singh Khalsa became a recurrent international Gatka award winner and Champion. He then became its head instructor and started the Rog Niwaran Camp as a sewa to promote health and Sikhi amongst the community. Seeing that members of the Sikh community were not comfortable attending health and fitness camps incorporating rituals and outside beliefs, Khalsa Sewa Dal found it necessary to start a unique camp inspired by Sikh philosophy. At first, these camps helped people in different villages and cities in India. These free camps have now occurred in numerous places such as Thailand, Africa, Malaysia, and the United States.

Attendees testify that words cannot express their gratitude towards Bhai Onkar Singh for facilitating the Rog Niwaran Camp and teaching them how to take care of their own health. On the events facebook page, a video shows an elderly lady from Malaysia stating that she used to have immense arthritic pain in her feet and knees but now is able to stand on her feet. This is the first time that the Camp will be occurring in Canada.

Through his years of travelling, research, and formal education, Bhai Onkar Singh has learned many alternative therapies to treat the body including acupressure, the Bowen Technique of massage, meditation, and others. Bhai Onkar Singh believes in the ability to heal oneself through minimal use of western medicine. He believes the definition of health according to Gurbani includes spiritual, mental, and physical fitness. A well balanced diet, physical activity, and Naam Simran play a special role in this definition. Therefore, a typical “Rog Niwaran Camp” session will include head-to-toe stretches, mobilization of joints, stress-exercises, meditation/simran, acupressure, Gurmat thoughts, sakhi’s from Sikhism’s rich history, and a focus on treatment from your own kitchen as alternative therapies for different ailments.

Healthy young adults will benefit by attending “Rog Niwaran Camp” and are encouraged to bring their parents and grandparents as well. Let us all benefit from Bhai Onkar Singh’s wealth of knowledge, experience, and instructions in English and Punjabi. Everyone from every culture is invited but this camp is for persons 14 years and older. The Camp is not intended to connect you with any particular person or organization but instead to encourage you to actively gain control of your health and help others.

The camp is entirely FREE. To register or for more information, contact:
