Statement by Ontario Gurdwara Committee on the Sandy Hook Shooting

BRAMPTON, ON, Canada—The Ontario Gurdwara Committee (OGC) offers its sincere condolences on behalf of the Sikh Community to the victims and families of the Sandy Hook Elementary shooting.

Many Gurdwaras work very closely with elementary school children which makes the news of this tragedy that much harder to accept. Schools are meant to be a safe environment where our children pursue their dreams and develop their passions, without the need to worry about their safety and security.

As we gather today to mourn and reflect on this senseless and cowardice act of violence, the Sri Guru Singh Sabha (Malton) will dedicate tomorrow’s simran (meditation) program in remembrance of the children and victims who lost their lives in this tragedy. This prayer, as all programming in Gurdwaras, is open to everyone, regardless of faith and background.

Details of the program:

Address: 7280 Airport Road, Mississauga, ON L4T 2H3

Telephone: 905-671-1662

Time: 8:00PM to 9:00PM

On behalf of the Ontario Gurdwara Committee, the membership, and the Sikh community we send our sincere condolences to the families of those who have lost their lives or been injured today, in Newton, Connecticut.

The Ontario Gurdwaras Committee is an umbrella group representing over a dozen Gurdwaras  in Southern Ontario, with a combined congregation of over 200,000.  As such, it is their  mandate to represent the hundreds of thousands of Sikhs living in Ontario.
