“Red Rivers of Punjab” – Report on History of Violence and Corruption

VANCOUVER, BC, Canada—The Canadian Sikh Coalition has released a report titled “Red Rivers of Punjab”.  The report details history of violence and corruption under the rule of Parkash Badal in Punjab.  Stating in 1971 and being re-elected fifth time in 2012, Parkash Badal’s Akali Dal has made the people of Punjab suffer more and more every term.

A press statement issued by the Coalition states, “At first glance, one would assume Badal’s rise to power would be a result of his charismatic personality, good governing strategies and commitment to the people.  However, a closer look at Badal’s political reign provides a much darker reality.”

“Prakash Badal has been committing human rights violations, torture, and exploitation for many years under the veil of democratic rule.  From his various terms in power there have been countless casualties of police torture, ruthless acts of repression, and large amounts of wealth accumulated through unscrupulous means.”

As per the correspondence, the report is launched to support the rights and freedoms of the Sikhs living in Punjab and abroad.  The aim of the report is to shed light on grave violation of Human Rights in Punjab of the Sikh people.  The report is available at the Coalition’s website.
