Punjab Cultural and Heritage Board Proposes Amendments To “Son of Sardar”

AMRITSAR SAHIB—President of Maharashtra based Punjabi Cultural and Heritage Board Charan Singh Sapra has apprehended that there seems to be a deliberate and malicious act intended to outrage the religious feelings of the Sikhs by insulting their religion or religious beliefs [in Bollywood Movies].

Sapra told TOI on Thursday that the Board had raised objection on behalf of Sikh Community with regard to certain dialogues in the forth coming film “Son of Sardaar”.  A letter was addressed to Ajay Devgan on September 14 specifying the objections.

In continuation to this, Devgan and his co-producers – Kumar Mangat and Pasichia met the delegation of Board on Wednesday.  He informed that after elaborate discussion for more than an hour it was agreed by Devgan that the objectionable dialogues would be removed from the promos as well the film.

He said he had also asked the producers to remove the objectionable promos from internet (Youtube) for which they agreed but wanted 48 hours time. As a precautionary measure , he said it was also decided in the meeting that Ajay Devgan’s Production would also show the amended film to the Board members before sending it for Censor Certification.

He said that the Board had already written a letter to the Chairperson Censor Board to have a cautious viewing of this film. It was also suggested that the Sikh members of the Censor Board should be assigned to view this film when it comes for certification.

It was mentioned that Sikhs are brave warriors whether it was the Moghul or the British rule. Post-Independence of India also shows great contribution of the Community in development of nation. “As of today, the army Chief of India is a Sikh and also the nation is led by Sikh Prime Minster Dr. Manmohan Singh” he said
