Dozens of Sacha Sauda Followers Sentenced to Imprisonment

MOGA, Punjab—A Moga based court has announced imprisonment for 34 followers of Gurmeet Ram Rahim’s Sirsa based cult.  These convicts face 3 years imprisonment for committing arson and causing damage to public property.  Court has also ordered them to pay fine of Rs. 5,000 each.

The verdict was announced by Moga district and sessions judge Karamjit Singh Kang this past Friday on September 21.  All persons were granted bail, except for one Agyapal Insa who was acquitted from all charges due to lack of evidence against him.

In 2007, Ram Rahim launched a campaign to mimic the identity of Guru Gobind Singh Ji.  He administered altered version of the Sikh baptism to his own followers.  The manner in which the baptism was carried out was very similar to 1699 when Guru Gobind Singh Ji blessed the “Punj Pyare” with Amrit.   In addition to hurting the sentiments of the Sikh community, Ram Rahim, along with his followers are undergoing trial in multiple cases of murder, rape and embezzlement,
