KAPURTHALA—VIP Treatment for former SGPC President Bibi Jagir Kaur who is facing 5 years imprisonment for forcing her daughter to have an abortion is continuing to baffle not only the Sikh organisations but also the victims in the Harpreet Kaur murder and abortion case. Following concerns with her getting VIP treatment within the Kapurthala Jail, now the Bibi has shocked everyone once again by demonstrating her superiority and high status within the jail.
This past Sunday, a program was organized within the jail premises in which Bibi Jagir Kaur honoured Jagjit Singh, Inspector General and SP Khanna, Jail Superintendent. Jagjit Singh was honoured for his role in drug de-addiction program that is underway there. Notably, when different organisations had claimed that the Bibi was getting VIP treatment, it was Jagjit Singh who defended jail authorities, claiming that the Bibi was getting same treatment as other inmates.
The program within the jail focused on helping stop drug abuse by jailed prisoners. Although efforts by SP Khanna are praise worthy, it is the continuous praise of Bibi Jagir Kaur which is an issue. The bibi delivered a speech at the program and was seen sitting with her fellow Akalis who had been invited to take part in the program. Bibi Jagir Kaur also spent time with her supporters after the program.
The celebrity treatment of Bibi Jagir Kaur sets a wrong precedent as she is facing charges for forcing her daughter to have an abortion. Although Jagir Kaur’s role in later killing her daughter was also questioned, the court did not uphold these charges against her.
