Poem: The Thief

I was a thief
That searched
His heart
Scaling the walls
He hid behind
But it wasn’t to steal
For what can be stolen
From a heart
So empty?

I listened for You
In his broken words

I searched for You
In his jaded eyes

I begged for You
In his clouded mind

But the only love
That remained
In his house
Was the faintest sound
Of familiar steps

They keep him
From the edge
They keep him
From the others

He went to others
For love
They came to him
For desires

He went to others
For seva
They came to him
For power

His head
Bare
His face
Naked
Yet deep within
You sat
So silent

Maharaaj,
Bless their hearts
With True Sangat

Maharaaj,
Bless their hearts
With Your Naam

Maharaaj,
Bless their children
With their parents

Maharaaj,
Put back
The Hope
You stole

Oh my Beloved Thief
Your ways
Are so severe
Yet they will see
How You saved them
When you bring them near

You are The Thief
That steals
Our hearts
Scaling the pain
We hide behind

You are The Thief
That gives us all
By taking it all away
