Akal Takhat Jathedar to Meet Badal, Others to Discuss Bhai Rajoana Case

:dateline:Sikh24 has learned that Giani Gurbachan Singh is going to meet with Chief Minister Parkash Badal in regards to the case of Bhai Balwant Singh Rajoana. Bhai Balwant Singh has been adamant about his execution but the Sikh Panth is pushing for a review of his sentence. The Punjab Government, although believed to be an active hindrance to the Panth, is also likely to not go through the depravity of executing a Sikh Nationalist. Parkash Badal’s chief secretary has also held closed door meetings with senior officers of Patiala jail in regards to the case of Bhai Rajoana.

Giani Gurbachan Singh has recently met with Bhai Rajoanas sister who has insisted that the government appointed Akal Takhat Jathedar support her brothers wish to go on with the execution. Bhai Rajoana has expressed his solidity with Akal Takhat Sahibs supremacy but he has already asked the appointed Jathedar to not ask him to file an appeal with the Prime Minister of India seeking to commute his execution order. If pushed by Akal Takhat Sahib, it is believed that Bhai Rajoana may give up his wish to not file an appeal.

According to the Sikh Organization for Prisoner Welfare, another meeting was held at Sri Akal Takhat Sahib recently, to get input from legal bodies. Advocate Amar Singh Chahal, member of Lawyers For Human Rights International and an advocate of eleven accused in the Beant assassination case, provided legal counsel in the meeting. Out of many courses of actions discussed, four Jathedars expressed their approval in issuing a hukamnama asking Bhai Rajoana to appeal his death sentence. A meeting is going to take place today at Teja Singh Samundri Hall where the five Singh Sahibs will ponder upon the various complexities of the issue.
