Paris hosted the European Sikh Summit in November 2011 – the Summit was the first of its kind and was attended by guests from all over the globe. A powerful speech was given by Jarnail Singh, a journalist who made headlines for throwing a shoe at an Indian minister in protest of the lack of progress on bringing the murderers of the 1984 anti Sikh Genocide to justice.
