SGPC: Persons Performing Punishment Conferred by Sarbat Khalsa Jathedars Not Allowed Within Darbar Sahib

AMRITSAR SAHIB, Punjab—Master Johar Singh, who is President of Management Committee governing Gurdwara Chhota Ghallughara Kahnuwan Chhamb situated in Qadian (Gurdaspur), was once again barred from entering sanctum sanctorum Sri Harmandir Sahib on October 14. Master Johar Singh had come to serve the punishment addressed to him by Sarbat Khalsa appointed Jathedars for dereliction in managing the Gurdwara affairs properly.

As per reports, Master Johar Singh was hindered from entering Sri Harmandir Sahib by Manager Sulakhan Singh by asking him appear before SGPC appointed Akal Takht Jathedar Giani Gurbachan Singh. Following a short heated arguments, Master Johar Singh returned back by performing Ardas at the barricade installed on gate situated towards Guru Ram Das Saran.

Interacting with media, Master Johar Singh said that Giani Gurbachan Singh was relieved from the temporal Sikh seat by Sarbat Khalsa in November 2015.  He added that he only recognizes the Jathedars appointed by Sarbat Khalsa and appealed the Sarbat Khalsa appointed Jathedars to change his venue for performing sewa.

It may be recalled here that first time on October 12, when Master Johar Singh had come to appear before Sarbat Khalsa appointed Jathedars at Sri Akal Takht Sahib, he was hindered by the SGPC from entering into sanctum sanctorum Sri Harmandir Sahib. When Master Johar Singh tried to enter into sanctum sanctorum via gate situated on side of Mai Sewa Bazaar he was again barred there also. Following the incident, the Sikh activists and SGPC task force employees had indulged into a bloody clash resulting in injuring of men from both sides.  

Despite of the fact that Master Johar Singh couldn’t turn up before Sarbat Khalsa appointed Takht Jathedars, he was punished to perform seva inside the sanctum sanctorum Sri Harmandir Sahib for a week.

The clash between two factions of Sikhs drew a sharp criticism of common Sikh masses as the incident spread a wave of panic among common devotees at Sri Harmandir Sahib.
