AMRITSAR SAHIB, Punjab—The Damdami Taksal has initiated ‘kaar sewa’ (volunteer service) of the martyrs’ gallery project in the basement of Sant Jarnail Singh Khalsa Bhindranwale memorial on July 6. Notably, the SGPC had resolved to install a portrait gallery dedicated to the martyrs of June 1984 holocaust in the basement of Sant Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale Memorial, near the supreme Sikh throne, Sri Akal Takht Sahib on June 15.
The project was assigned to Sikh seminary Damdami Taksal on June 16 by the SGPC.
Following the culmination of Sri Akhand Path Sahib at Sant Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale memorial, a Gurmat Diwan was organized by the SGPC. Keeping in view the possibility of protest by Sikh masses, the SGPC didn’t allow Akal Takht Jathedar Giani Gurbachan Singh to address the gathering.
Later, the SGPC President Prof. Kirpal Singh Badungar, DSGMC President Manjit Singh GK, Head Granthi of Sri Harmandir Sahib Giani Jagtar Singh and Damdami Taksal chief Baba Harnam Singh Dhumma inaugurated the project by carrying tiles to the basement of Sant Jarnail Singh Khalsa Bhindranwale memorial.
Interacting with media, SGPC president Prof. Kirpal Singh Badungar said that the Sikh psyche could never forget the 1984’s holocaust. He added that such projects were necessary to apprise the upcoming generations about the atrocities committed by Indian government on Sikhs.
Taking on the Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh for opposing the martyrs’ gallery project, Prof. Badungar said that what else could be expected from a marionette of the party who had carried out 1984’s holocaust.
