CHANDIGARH, Punjab—Following rejection of plea by the Punjab & Haryana High Court seeking CBI probe into deadly attack on him, Sikh preacher Bhai Ranjit Singh Dhadrianwale has decided to challenge High Court’s decision in the Supreme Court of India.

Notably, the Punjab & Haryana High Court had rejected the petition moved by Dhadrianwale seeking CBI probe about involvement of Damdami Taksal chief Baba Harnam Singh Dhumma in deadly attack on him last year. Bhai Ranjit Singh Dhadrianwale was attacked by Damdami Taksal (Dhumma) activists on Ludhiana-Mullanpur road on May 16, 2016 in which his accomplice Bhai Bhupinder Singh lost his life.

The Punjab & Haryana High Court’s bench headed by Justice Fatehdeep Singh had said that the Court didn’t find any weakness in the investigation of the case being done by the Punjab police. Court had further said that the investigation being done by the Punjab police was satisfactory and the Damdami Taksal’s chief Baba Harnam Singh Dhumma had also supported the Police in investigation.

Legal counsel of Bhai Dhadrianwala and complainant Kulwinder Singh, Advocate GS Ghumman and Advocate GPS Ghumman said that they will challenge the High Court’s verdict in the Supreme Court via Special Leave Petitions (SLP). The Constitution of India under Article 136 vests the Supreme Court of India with a special power to grant special leave, to appeal against any judgment or order or decree in any matter or cause, passed or made by any Court/tribunal in the territory of India.

Claiming of gross shortcomings in the investigation by Punjab police, the legal counsels said that 30-40 attackers were involved in the deadly attack on Sikh preacher Baba Ranjit Singh Dhadrianwala but the Police have indicted only 14. They further said that the three cars in Dhadrianwala’s cavalcade were attacked but the Police have attached only one car as a case property.
