BREAKING: AAP Fields Upkar Singh Sandhu For Amritsar

Upkar Singh Sandhu AAP Amritsar

AMRITSAR SAHIB, Punjab—The Aam Aadmi Party today fielded ex-Akali, Upkar Singh Sandhu as it’s candidate in the by-poll for the Amritsar parliamentary seat which was vacated by Punjab Congress head Captain Amarinder Singh when he resigned in protest of Supreme Court’s ruling against Punjab on the SYL-canal issue.

Sandhu was inducted into party fold by the AAP’s state convener, Gurpreet Singh Waraich, yesterday.

Upkar Singh Sandhu was Chairman of the Punjab Energy Development Agency and President of the Urban unit for the ruling Shiromani Akali Dal in Amritsar, before he quit the SAD in protest against the beadbi (sacrilege) incidents Punjab last year, and had alleged failure of the state government in nabbing the culprits behind these incidents.

It is learnt that the legislator Inderbir Singh Bolaria tried his utmost to prevent Upkar Singh from joining AAP but Sandhu remained adamant on his stand of joining.

BJP has fielded Rajinder Mohan Singh Chhina while Congress has given their ticket to Gurjit Singh Aujla from Amritsar.
