2017 assembly polls: Congress to announce candidates by October end

cpt amarinderCHANDIGARH—Speaking at a press conference on September 24, Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee president Captain Amarinder Singh said that the candidates list for 2017 assembly polls will be announced by the end of October.  He informed that the release of list has been delayed due to the ill health of Congress’ National President Sonia Gandhi.

Taking on BJP rebel Navjot Singh Sidhu, Captain Amarinder Singh said that Sidhu has confused his followers by changing his stance again and again.

“Such leaders are not welcome in Congress,” he said while refuting any possibility of Sidhu’s induction into Congress fold.  Sidhu had earlier stated that the Awaz-e-Punjab will not be contesting the upcoming elections in Punjab.

Indirectly referring to former Aam Aadmi Party state convener Sucha Singh Chhotepur and Birdevinder Singh, Captain said that doors of his party were open to all the veteran leaders except for those who had left the party in tough time.  Sucha Singh Chhotepur was sacked from the Aam Aadmi Party on corruption charges.

  1. Astonishing this man who wants Punjab’s voters to elect him CM can’t even tell them who they can vote for unless he is told by a sick old woman of Italian descent hundreds of miles away in Delhi. How can he and Congress then seriously contend they will fight for Punjab’s best interests when they don’t know if Sonia agrees with that. Dynastic political parties have no place in proper democratic countries – yes that also applies to you too Sukhbir Badal.
