Gurbani Word Of The Day : asaňkh

ਅਸੰਖ (asaňkh)
Meaning: adjective: Countless, innumerable.

Quote:
ਅਸੰਖ ਜਪ   ਅਸੰਖ ਭਾਉ॥ ਅਸੰਖ ਪੂਜਾ   ਅਸੰਖ ਤਪ ਤਾਉ॥
asaňkh jap   asaňkh bhaau. asaňkh poojaa   asaňkh tap taau.
(In this wonderful creation) countless are those who chant the Name of the Divine, countless are those who express their love for Him. Countless are those who worship Him and countless are those who engage in penances. – Guru Nanak Sahib, Guru Granth Sahib, Page 03

Message: Guru Nanak here is awe struck at the diversity and range of human endeavours, from chanting, to expressions of love, rituals, austerities, yoga, study of the scriptures, long silences and contemplation. Countless people are engaged in these practices, and together, they reflect the human longing for communion with the Divine or the Ultimate. Still the Divine remains inexplicable.

Creation is infinitely diverse by nature. How can we, with our limited capability, comprehend or describe the nature and extent of the creation? We cannot.

Humble yourself before it and thus be in harmony with the will of the Creator.

Etymology: From Sanskrit asaṁkhya (innumerable).
