42 Sikh Political Prisoners Likely To Be Released In Coming Days

2015-11-12_sikh_council_modiNEW DELHI, India—According to a news report published in the vernacular Indian English newspaper ‘Hindustan Times’, Chairperson of a UK-based Sikh Human Rights Group, Dr. Jasdev Singh Rai has claimed that the Indian government was processing the release of political Sikh prisoners and 42 political Sikh prisoners, including Prof. Devenderpal Singh Bhullar and Bhai Lal Singh.

Dr. Rai and other leading figures of the UK had acted as intermediaries between Sikh bodies and the Indian government, in facilitating a talk between two parties on the issue of political Sikh prisoner, during Modi’s visit to London.

Dr. Rai has said that as a follow-up to the discussion held in London, he contacted the National Security Advisor of India Sri Ajit Doval to inquire on the progress on the issue. He announced that Doval has said that the issue was under process and hopefully 42 political Sikh prisoners would be released within a short period of time.

He added that the Indian government has also stepped up the processing to abolish the current ‘black list’ of Sikhs residing abroad. ‘All the embassies of India across the world have been instructed by Sri Doval to take down the black lists of Sikhs very soon’, he added.
