Less Students Showing Interest in SGPC Run Religious Course

Mata Gujri CollegeINDORE, Madhya Pradesh—An annual religious exam about Sikhism was conducted by the SGPC in Indore, in which the student count was noticed to be extremely low. The two phased exam comprised of Basic Information about Sikhism, Sikh history, Gurbani Scriptures and Rehat Maryada (Sikh code of conduct).

The manager of the Indore based examination center, S. Joginder Singh Arora, said that Mata Gujri College was chosen as an examination center keeping in view in centralized locality. He said that this year the students don’t seem to have expressed an appreciable interest towards the course.

He added that the examination dates were changed numerous times and also the roll numbers were issued too late. ‘Annual academic examinations also acted as a major reason behind the lower count of students this year’, he added.

Arora alleged that SGPC was not serious about conducting the course and they might terminate the examination center in coming years. He added that they can conduct the examination in well-organized manner, without the SGPC.

It is notable here that this annual religious examination is run by the Dharam Parchar Committee of SGPC across India. Special scholarships are provided to the students who top the exam but from for a while now, irregularities are being observed in the exam.

  1. You guys should write Sikhi instead of Sikhism. Sikhism was a word given to us by Europeans. Other than that amazing work :)

    • The ‘ism’ is extremely useful in reinforcing the understanding that Sikhism is a separate and distinct religion from Hinduism as there are malign Hinduvta elements who wish to muddy the waters in order to sublimate Sikhi into being just an offshoot or sect of Hinduism.
