NAPA Seeks Immediate Release Of Sikh Journalist Detained Under Expired Draconian Law

Journalist-Surinder-Singh-is-currently-held-detainee-at-Ambala-Jail...WASHINGTON DC, USA—US based North American Punjabi Association (NAPA) has strongly condemned the arrest of a prominent Sikh journalist Surinder Singh, who has been charged and imprisoned in a 27 year old case.

Executive director Satnam Singh Chahal, said that Surinder Singh is an eminent journalist who provides extensive coverage of Sikh political issues.

“It is very unfortunate that the police was continuously harassing him to stop his investigative coverage. This is a murder of freedom of speech”, added Chahal.

He stated that if the fourth pillar of democracy is not safe in the Punjab state then safety of the common man is in jeopardy.

Chahal alleged that  even though the statute of ‘Terrorist and Disruptive Activities (Prevention) Act’ (TADA) had expired, it has apparently been used against Surinder Singh who was earlier detained in Punjab and later transferred to Haryana.

Anger has been triggered among the Punjabi diaspora, due to the arrest of a Surinder Singh. Chahal demanded his immediate release from imprisonment.
