Aam Aadmi Party Decides Against Announcing Candidate for Chief Minister Post in Punjab

CHANDIGARH, Punjab—Refuting rumours that Aam Aadmi Party is going to field Arvind Kejriwal as the chief ministerial candidate in Punjab, Sucha Singh Chhotepur has said that the party will not announce its chief ministerial candidate for the 2017 assembly elections.  Chottepur alleged that such announcement could lead to troubles in Punjab as the ruling Government may try to implant the candidate in false cases.

“If they find out as who is our chief ministerial candidate, they will plant narcotic powder on him and send him to jail,” he alleged.

There were rumours that Arvind Kejriwal might be announced as the Chief Ministerial candidate in Punjab.  There were also rumours that Bhagwant Mann could too take up that place, however he would have to resign as the MP.  There were rifts within the party and Dr. Dharamvira Gandhi and Harinder Singh Khalsa had openly announced candidature of Kejriwal.

Chottepur said that the current focus is to register votes in Punjab and to fight against growing corruption.
