Bail for Dangerous Hindutva Terrorist Approved by Punjab & Haryana High Court

CHANDIGARH, Punjab—Naba Kumar Sarkar alias Aseemanand, who was responsible for a three devastating bomb blasts in 2007 was granted an interim bail yesterday.  Bail has been provided for 10 days so Aseemanand could visit his ailing mother in Kolkata.

Aseemanand is the prime accused in the Samjhauta train blast that took place in 2007.  While he was granted a bail last year in August in the Samjhauta blast, he is incarcerated for his involvement in two other deadly blasts, namely at the Mecca Masjid and Ajmer Dargah in the same year.

The Rashtriya Swamsevak Sang carried out multiple blasts in 2007, mainly targeting Muslims.

While Aseemanand has been granted bail, the Punjab Government has refused to release Sikh political prisoners who have already completed their terms.  Bapu Surat Singh, an 82 year old activist is on hunger strike since January 16 to seek equal treatment for all prisoners.
