Op/Ed: Prof. Bhullar’s Transfer to Punjab – Controversy & Hypocrisy by the BJP

—In wake of Prof. Bhullar’s transfer to Amritsar, Narendera Modi has cancelled his upcoming trip to Anandpur Sahib.  Despite the fact that the BJP had supported the Lakhnaur Sahib campaign by Bhai Gurbaksh Singh Haryana for the release of Sikh political prisoners, it has now taken a U-turn on the promises made earlier.

A number of BJP officials visited Bhai Gurbaksh Singh various times to express support,
however the New Delhi Assembly Elections led to change of plans.

Sikh24 is not suggesting that Bhai Gurbaksh Singh has any affiliation with the BJP.  However, it is a fact that the BJP had at one point expressed support to Bhai Gurbaksh Singh Khalsa when he went on hunger strike in Lakhnaur Sahib near Ambala.  A number of BJP officials visited Bhai Gurbaksh Singh and the Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh too had expressed support towards the demand of Bhai Gurbaksh Singh.

Prof. Davinderpal Singh Bhullar was transferred to Punjab after the go-ahead by the Kejriwal Government in Delhi.  Top sources in the Union home minister’s department were involved in the decision.  While the Akali Dal is boasting about its success in bringing Prof. Bhullar back to Punjab, the BJP-led Central government is condemning the transfer.

Narendera Modi was invited as the chief guest for Anandpur Sahib’s 350th establishment day anniversary.  However due to his dissent with Akalis over Prof. Bhullar’s transfer, Modi has now cancelled his upcoming trip, announcing that Rajnath Singh would instead attend in his place.

Why was BJP at one point rallying for the release of Sikh political prisoners, but not taking a u-turn?
