PATNA Sahib, Bihar, India—The apex Sikh body, SGPC, has taken over the control of Takht Sri Patna Sahib management.  The 15 member committee elected 5 members and Avtar Makkar was named as head of the management committee unanimously.

The SGPC enjoys control over majority of Gurdwaras in Punjab, Chandigarh and Himachal Pardesh.  Now with the control of Takht Sri Patna Sahib, it can make decisions regarding 4 of the 5 takhts.  The fifth takht, Sri Hazoor Sahib, is run independently of SGPC control.

SGPC President was congratulated by DSGMC President Manjit Singh GK.  Some scholars have hinted that Makkar had been made head at Takht Sri Patna Sahib to empty the president’s position at SGPC headquarters in Sri Amritsar.

Salwinder Singh (Tata Nagar) became senior vice president, Bibi Kamaljeet Kaur got elected as junior vice president, Sarjinder Singh (Patna Sahib) was made general secretary and Mahinder Singh Chhabra as secretary.
