SAS Nagar, Punjab—The Shiromani Akali Dal (Badal) has expelled Kulwant Singh, senior leader and Fatehgarh Sahib Parliamentary elections candidate.  Along with him, his son and 10 supporters have also shown the exit sign by the ruling Punjab political party.

Kulwant Singh had fought the Lok Sabha election on SAD ticket from Fatehgarh Sahib segment last year. Now he is contesting the upcoming Mohali Municipal Corporation poll as an Independent candidate. He along with his son Sarabjit Singh Samana had returned the Akali tickets in protest after some loyal Akali supporters were not given SAD-BJP tickets.

Party in-charge in Sahibzada Ajit Singh Nagar (Mohali), Balwant Ramoowalia described the expelled members as “rebels” and stated, “This was the first installment (of expulsions), and more rebels will be expelled in the second installment.”  Ramoowalia stated that he had invited Punjab Chief Parliamentary Secretary NK Sharma and Akali leader Bibi Paramjit Kaur Landran to campaign in favour of Akali candidates in the town.
