Sirsa Cult Followers Disturb Sikh Congregation; Abuse Sikh Maryada

FARIDKOT, Punjab—In a nearby village named ‘Pakka’, tension triggered out when followers of Sirsa based controversial cult ‘Sacha Sauda’, created disturbance in Sikh sangat and forced them to end a congregation.

While the congregation was going on, the cultists began to raise slogans against Sikhs, thereby turning the situation tense. They complained that in the congregation, ‘derogatory remarks’ had been made by Sikh preacher Baba Harjinder Singh Manjhi. Finding the situation turning violent, Faridkot Police intervened into the matter.

Later, Police arrested Baba Harjinder Singh Manjhi, which led to deep anger among Sikh sangat. In addition, 20-25 other Sikhs were also arrested by the Police and released later.  Leaders of Sikh organizations alleged that the cultists created disturbance in Sikh congregations sans any reason and abused Gur Maryada.

SP Balbir Singh and DSP Gurjit Singh Romana settled down the issue by assuring to probe into the matter. Some members of Sikh organizations wanted to stage protest on Talwandi-Fridkot road but Police did not grant permission.  They also failed to case a criminal case against the cultists.  Police official said that they would first investigate the matter, and after that the case would be registered against anyone.

It is worth mentioning that the cult and its controversial chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim have been misinterpreting Sikh ethos and misleading followers of Sikh religion in particular, and other religions in general. For their false propaganda against Sikh religion, Sikhs have been protesting against them since long.
