Minority Rights: Iron Lady Irom Sharmila Again Arrested in Manipur After Her Release

NEW DELHI, India—Irom Sharmila, who is popular as an iron lady in Manipur, started her hunger strike against the extra rights given to Armed Forces for assaulting the rights of minorities in India. She started her hunger strike in protest of a shootout near her home in which 10 innocent people were killed by the army. She held army personnel guilty for this incident and no action was taken against the army by the government.

Seeing no chances of justice from the Government, she started her strike and she was arrested by the police under offense of attempted to commit suicide. Irom Sharmila was forcefully kept in hospital, where she was given the necessary glucose to keep her alive.

On 22nd January the local court ordered for her release from the hospital where she was under detention. Irom Sharmila has become very popular across Manipur as an Iron Lady.

The Court also ordered to remove the cases against Irom Sharmila under Article 309 and 353. Now, reliable sources have informed that Irom Sharmila has been arrested again.
