CHANDIGARH, Punjab—Punjab deputy Chief minister Sukhbir Badal has made an appeal to Indian home minister Rajnath Singh to review the black list of Sikhs living abroad. He demanded names of innocent persons be deleted from the list but did not seek termination of the list.

Talking to media persons, Sukhbir’s media advisor Jangvir Singh said that the deputy CM has written a letter to Rajnath Singh wherein he told him that the black list contained numerous flaws and created problems for Sikhs.

In the letter, Sukhbir said that the persons, with names similar to that of blacklisted Sikhs, have to face problems at airports. He said the Sikhs living abroad complain about such problems frequently and raise demands to have names of innocent Sikh excluded from the list.

“After discussing the matter with Punjab government, ministry of home affairs (MHA) has informed that 63 persons have been restricted. Of them, 31 persons don’t have necessary documents”, he said in letter.

However, Sukhbir did not demand the list be terminated as it violates the human rights of Sikhs living out of their home country. By maintaining such list, Indian government has not been allowing Sikhs to enter in India for two decades on pretext of terrorism.
