Ground Breaking Ceremony of Fremont (California) Khalsa School Completed by Punj Pyare

FREMONT, California, USA—After having outgrown its current facilities, the Ground Breaking ceremony for the Fremont Khalsa School and langar hall was completed by Panj Pyare this past Sunday afternoon at Gurdwara Sahib Fremont. Fremont Gurdwara Sahib is adding to existing infrastructure after a period of over 15 years. The remodel will build a new Kitchen and Khalsa School rooms adjacent to the current langar hall, which was originally the main darbar hall.

Fremont Gurdwara’s Khalsa School currently has over 500 students registered—an increase of 10% since last year alone.  In addition, the school facilities are also used for other initiatives, such as after school programs, Wednesday Gurmat classes, and other discussions that are planned by the youth over time.  In addition to the school building, the Gurdwara Sahib will benefit from a new langar hall.  The Gurdwara currently serves one of the biggest sangats in North America, however it has been limited by langar hall size.

The planned construction will add 10,000 sq ft total, including 5,000 sq ft of kitchen space and 5,000 sq ft of rooms to be used for the Sunday Khalsa school.

There is tremendous excitement amongst the sangat and it can be gauged from the fact that more than $220,000 had been raised in cash and pledges in a mere 2 weeks of tabling at Gurdwara Sahib.

Volunteers will be starting door to door campaigns for traditional donors for fundraising from the coming Saturday.

The total construction cost is estimated to be $2.8 million.
