BC Mainland Sikh Sangat Organizes Satkar Committee to Ensure Respect for Guru Granth Sahib

SURREY, BC, Canada—During a meeting held at Guru Nanak Sikh Gurdwara (Surrey/Delta), Sikh Sangat organized a Satkar Committee comprising of various youth to ensure proper respect for Guru Granth Sahib Ji.   The committee was tasked to make sure current saroops that arrived from India are being treated with respect, and in the future, the sevadars will extend their operation to other Gurdwaras and institutions in BC.

A number of other resolutions were passed by the gathering of Sikh Sangat –

  • No additional saroops of Guru Granth Sahib should enter Canada for the next two years at least
  • There was no need for a printing press in North America
  • The saroops should not be distributed to anyone until the arrival of the SGPC delegation
  • Proper investigation should be done at private residences before being blessed with a saroop and volunteers should follow up with random checks on the households

Representatives of BC Sikh Sangat will meet with SGPC delegation to advise them to assess the current situation.  A number of different Sikh representatives are scheduled to arrive in BC from October 4 to 7.  These include Dalmegh Singh, Roop Singh, Balwinder Singh Joura and Manjit Singh GK.

The meeting also passed a resolution asking various Gurdwara Sahibs to follow up on the adesh issued to Bhai Ripudaman Singh Malik in regards to seva of Guru Granth Sahib Ji saroops.
