SGPC Condemns Ban on Film Kaum De Heere

Kaum de Heere 2AMRITSAR SAHIB, Punjab—In a press release issued here, Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) has strongly condemned the ban imposed on the Punjabi film “Kaum De Heere” (Diamonds of Nation) and appealed to Central Board of Film Certification (CBFS) and Ministry of Information & Broadcasting of India to reconsider the decision on the film.

The film projects Shaheed Bhai Beant Singh and Bhai Satwant Singh who took revenge of attack on Sri Darbar Sahib, by assassinating the Indian prime minister Indira Gandhi, as heroes. The film was first denied clearance certificate by Indian censor board in March this year but later on it got clearance. The film was due to release on 22nd August but suddenly on the instructions of central government, it came to a halt.

The Sikhs around the world have already joined hands to raise their voice in favor of the film describing it as a fact based film.

SGPC president Avtar Singh Makkar in the release has too described the film as a fact based and suggested for the consultation of Sikh scholars and SGPC while deciding the fate of such films.

“The film has shown something that people are quite aware of. Will the ban erase those events that had happened in 1984 from the minds and hearts of the peoples?” he questioned further.
