AMRITSAR SAHIB—Giani Gurbachan Singh, appointed Jathedar of Sri Akal Takht Sahib, has directed the Shiromani Gurdwara Prabandhak Committee (SGPC) to hold probe into the violence that took place in Sri Darbar Sahib Complex between Sikhs and the SGPC task force during the 30th anniversary of June 1984 holocaust.

While talking to media persons here, Jathedar said that he has asked the SGPC president Avtar Makkar to submit a report after probing the incident.  Giani Gurbachan Singh said that some “unscrupulous elements” attacked employees of SGPC.

When reporters pointed out that one of the SGPC employees had brandished naked sword at Sri Darbar Sahib Complex, Jathedar said, “Such aspects will not be ignored during course of investigation.”

Meanwhile, Punjab Police ADCP, Parampal Singh, said that 21 were persons arrested in connection with the violent incident. Rest of the alleged accused would be nabbed soon, he said.

SGPC President had issued a press release yesterday, blaming S. Simranjit Singh Mann, and Bhai Amrik Singh Ajnala for the violence.  S. Mann’s supporters have alleged that he had already left Darbar Sahib when the attack took place.
