SRI ANANDPUR SAHIB—In his message delivered at Takht Sri Kesgarh Sahib in Anandpur Sahib upon the conclusion of Hola Mohalla, Sri Akal Takht Sahib Jathedar Giani Gurbachan Singh expressed worry over the decreasing population of Sikhs, and called upon Sikh couples to have four children.

Giani Gurbachan Singh said, “decreasing population of Sikhs is adversely affecting the progress of Sikh community”, adding, “time has come to discard the slogan of Hum Do Hamare Do meaning “We are two (husband and wife) and we have two (children)” and instead adopt the slogan of Hum Do Hamare Chaar  meaning “We are two (husband and wife) and we have four (children)” in the greater interest of Sikhs”.

He also urged the Sikhs to solemnize the marriage early in the morning (Amrit Vela).

Takht Sri Kesgarh Sahib Jathedar Giani Mal Singh, in his message, also asked the Sikhs to shun the social evils like dowry, female foeticide and wasteful expenditure on marriages. He also urged the Sikhs to grow more, and more trees, in order to ensure a clean, and pollution free environment.
