Bhatti Ends Hunger Strike in New Delhi

NEW DELHI—Iqbal Singh Bhatti (President Human Rights Association France) ended his hunger strike in Jantar Mantar, Delhi. Sardar Bhatti was sitting on an indefinite fast demanding the release of Prof DevinderPal Singh Bhullar and ended his hunger strike on the appeal of the DSGMC, Bibi Nirpreet Kaur and Arvind Kejriwal.

He has, however, simultaneously announced that if the government does not take any action in Prof Bhullar’s case by 15 August 2013 he would renew the struggle along with Bibi Nirpreet Kaur.  Bhatti has already conducted an 11 day hunger strike in a Paris Gurdwara protesting against Prof Bhullar’s death sentence.

Arvind Kejriwal (President Aam Adami Party) has given his full support to the Sikh community and has appealed to the public to stand united for the cause  in the fight for justice.

Addressing the gathering, Jathedar Kuldeep Singh Bhogal said that “The Sikhs have been forced to hold demonstrations and hunger strikes as they have been harassed by the government for the past 29 years.”

Paramjeet Singh Rana expressed a strong reaction saying that the Sikh community would continue with their protests until a decision has been announced in their favour.

According to Sikhs, the biased nature of the Indian justice system has been demonstrated when Sajjan Kumar, who was accused of mass murdering Sikhs in the anti-Sikh genocide of 1984, was released by the Delhi High Court whereas  Prof Bhullar’s death sentence is going forward when he is clearly stated medically unfit for the hanging.
