BREAKING: Punjab Police Abuses Sikhs & Others On Gurpurab; Removes Turbans

KHADOOR SAHIB, Punjab—During a political rally organized by the Shiromani Akali Dal (B), the Punjab Police committed a horrendous act and removed turbans of various Sikhs who were protesting peacefully for their rights.  The rally was organized on occasion of Guru Arjun Dev Ji’s Gurgaddi Gurpurab and the Akali Dal (B) was rallying to narrate its various “religious achievements” made in past several years.

The rally included presence of various prominent Akali Dal (B), Bhartiya Janta Party and SGPC leaders.  During the speech of Parkash Badal, Chief Minister Punjab, some unemployed workers were seen protesting against Government employment policies.  It was during this speech that the Punjab police started harassing and abusing the protestors.  Several were dragged from the event to police custody, and in process, turbans of many were removed.  Several members of the Akali Dal (B) and Bhartiya Janta Party were seen accompanying the police.

Badal’s speech fell short of promoting its agenda when the religious rights of the Sikhs were abused in front of him.  Turbans of unemployed workers were snatched and thrown in the air jointly by the Punjab Police and Government officials.  All this did not seem to bother Parkash Badal or his party as he went onto talk about various memorials constructed to promote religious values of the Sikhs.

It has been reported that the police took 73 members of the Unemployed Linemen’s Union into custody.  These persons were arrested merely because they were demanding jobs at the rally of Akali Dal (B).  Soma Singh, the Chief Advisor of the Union also alleged that many of the union members were also beaten in police custody.  A case has also been registered against union members for “creating ruckus and interfering in government duty”.

  1. I think the Indian Police should be ashamed of themselves. They should be able to control the crowds without violence and terror. The people who are entrusted to look after the welfare and security if the public are abusing their positions.

  2. This is sooooo wrong..sikh officials n police disrespecting their own religion..wearing turbans themselves yet disrespecting worn by others..does india give their officials n police teach them this during training..how shameful..not only do they suffer lack of income to feed their families when the goverment is hiking prices they dnt even have the right to speak nor human rights that the goverment officials touch their turbans..further suffering to the victims families not to mention hospital and court costs..shame on badal he will have to answer to sikhs all round the world, human rights groups, dignified society and God!!!!!! The PM should remove him from his post!! Indian government needs to realise todays society isnt one to remain quite it wants answers..shaheeds like bhagat singh feared this may happen our own sikh officials are putting shaheeds to vain..even in our ardas it tells us how our gurus sacraficed for kess, turban and religion..my deepest sympathy to those effected by crimes of this sort and requests to society to remain in peace..fight for your rights the lawful and civil way but do not do further wrong in responce to a wrong because two wrongs dont make a right..use the rights channels to voice your concerns and stand tall..do not remain quite in fear either nor because you may think its not happened to you or your religion, we are all da same human race with human rights
