Captain Amarinder to pay obeisance at Sri Harmandir Sahib on May 7

CHANDIGARH, Punjab—Chief Minister of Punjab Captain Amarinder Singh will pay obeisance at the sanctum sanctorum Sri Harmandir Sahib on May 7. Officially, he will be in Amritsar Sahib on May 7 & 8.

Recently appointed Chief Minister of Punjab, Captain Amarinder Singh was facing wrath of Sikh masses for not visiting the central Sikh shrine after taking charge as a Chief Minister of Punjab. He had come under fire of his political rivals when he met the notorious former Punjab Police DGP KP Gill by presenting a flower bouquet to him.  At the same time, Captain also refused to meet Canadian Defense Minister Harjit Singh Sajjan earlier this month.

Sikh24 has learnt that Captain Amarinder Singh might also visit historical Jallianwala Bagh to pay tribute to the martyrs besides paying visit to the Durgiana Temple.

SGPC President Prof. Kirpal Singh Badungar had already announced to welcome and honour Captain Amarinder Singh if he will pay visit to the sanctum sanctorum Sri Harmandir Sahib.  The SGPC had earlier refused a siropa to Captain Amarinder Singh in 2002.

  1. In a recent report, not only has this man condoned the use of human shields, but has also suggested to reward military personnel who show such ‘initiative’ to do so. Is this blatant support for human rights abuses deserving of a Siropa (robe of honour)?

  2. What kind of a sikh will go meet KPS Gill and give him a bouquet. No wonder sikhs in Canada didn’t want him to come to Canada. As per our teachings we cannot stop anyone going to Gurdwara but who needs the likes of him at Harmandir Sahib.
