WASHINGTON DC, USA—In a first for the history books, HarNarayan Singh, a long-time hockey enthusiast and Punjabi commentator, became the first ever English speaking Sikh to commentate live for a hockey game broadcast last night.
The Calgary Flames vs Toronto Maple Leafs game had Singh joining the commentating crew and delivering his usual flair.
A year ago, a clip of HarNarayan’s legendary call after a goal by Nick Bonino went viral. Since then, he has been on the map as a commentator, culminating in his debut last night.

A long time hockey fan himself, the success of the Punjabi commentating team has resulted in a sharp rise in the number of Sikh and South Asian kids registering for hockey as a sport.
