Gurbani Word Of The Day: bhojan

ਭੋਜਨ (bhojan)
Meaning: noun: Food.

Quote:
ਬਾਰ ਬਿਵਸਥਾ ਤੁਝਹਿ ਪਿਆਰੈ ਦੂਧ॥ ਭਰਿ ਜੋਬਨ ਭੋਜਨ ਸੁਖ ਸੂਧ॥
baar bivasthaa tujhahi piaarai doodh. bhar joban bhojan sukh soodh.
In your infancy, He gives you milk to drink. In the flower of your youth, He gives you a variety of foods and understanding to enjoy pleasures (stay joyful and happy). – Guru Arjan Sahib, Guru Granth Sahib, 266

Message: Food is essential and vital for our health and well being throughout our lives. Our Creator sustains us from conception through to old age. How many of us are conscious of this and acknowledge these blessings? This sustenance is not only in the form of physical food to keep the body alive, but extends to emotional sustenance provided by family, relatives, and friends, who love, protect, and guide us.

These bounties and blessings are too often taken for granted until such time as we lose them. Sit in silence for a while and look around. See how much you have. Reflect on the millions around the world who are impoverished and wish they had what you take so much for granted.

ਦੀਨ ਸਗਲੇ ਭੋਜਨ ਖਾਨ॥ ਮੋਹਿ ਨਿਰਗੁਨ ਇਕੁ ਗੁਨੁ ਨ ਜਾਨ॥
(O Divine!) You have given me all sorts of foods to eat, but I am very ungrateful, I do not acknowledge any of your virtues. – Guru Arjan Sahib, Guru Granth Sahib, 1181

Etymology: From Sanskrit bhojan (enjoying, eating; food) → Pali bhojan (food, meal).
