Make permanent housing and employment arrangements for the Afghan Sikhs, Khalsa League asks SGPC

CHANDIGARH, Punjab—Pained over the plight of doomed Afghan Sikhs being brought to India, the Khalsa League has asked the apex Sikh body Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee to come forward for making permanent housing and employment arrangements for the Sikhs being evacuated from Afghanistan.

Notably, the Afghan Sikhs being evacuated from Afghanistan are forced to live in the rest houses of Sikh shrines of New Delhi.

Speaking to Sikh24, Khalsa League’s Navdeep Singh Amritsar said that these Afghan Sikhs have abandoned their life earnings in Afghanistan so it is necessary for us to realize their needs and help them to pursue their lives in a respectful manner.

He added that the apex Sikh body Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhik Committee is controlling a huge infrastructure so it is not a tough task for the SGPC to make housing and employment arrangements for these ill-fated Afghan Sikhs.

“Instead of wasting the money donated by the sangat on promoting SAD (Badal), the SGPC should use this money for providing well-furnished houses to these Afghan Sikh families,” he said.

Earlier, the SGPC had promised to rehabilitate the Afghani Sikh families and take up the entire expense, however, Sikh24 has confirmed that to this date, SGPC has not provided any monetary support to the Afghani Sikh families. While most of the families from Afghanistan have now arrived in India, their airfare and rehabilitation costs were covered the international Sikh sangat, without any assistance of the SGPC.
