25th Martyrdom Anniversary of Shaheed Bhai Dilawar Singh observed at Akal Takht Sahib

AMRITSAR SAHIB, Punjab—The 25th martyrdom anniversary of Shaheed Bhai Dilawar Singh Babbar was today observed on the first floor of the supreme Sikh throne Sri Akal Takht Sahib. Following the culmination of Sri Akhand Path Sahib, Hazoori Raagi Jatha of Sri Darbar Sahib valorized the environment by singing Gurbani Shabad.

On the behalf of Shaheed Bhai Dilawar Singh’s family members, Bhai Gurcharan Singh received siropao because the parents of Shaheed Bhai Dilawar Singh couldn’t attend this program as they are out of India.

The message of Sarbat Khalsa appointed Akal Takht Jathedar Bhai Jagtar Singh Hawara was read on this occasion amid echoes of Khalistan Zindabad by Bhai Gurcharan Singh, who is a close confidant of Bhai Hawara.

Jathedar Hawara has directed the Sikhs to raise their voices against injustice and fight against New Delhi’s hegemony.

Sikh activists belonging to various Sikh outfits attended this martyrdom anniversary program of Shaheed Bhai Dilawar Singh.

Meanwhile, Sikh organizations have demanded that the portrait of Shaheed Bhai Dilawar Singh should be placed in the Central Sikh Museum.

Dal Khalsa’s spokesperson Kanwar Pal Singh said that Shaheed Bhai Dilawar Singh was recognized as a martyr by the Akal Takht on March 23, 2012. He accused SGPC of cold-shouldering this demand made by Panthik groups from the last few years.

“In view of Dilawar Singh’s sacrifice to restore Sikh human rights, his portrait should also be installed in the museum, along with portraits of other martyrs of the recent Sikh struggle,” he added.

Shaheed Bhai Dilawar Singh had put an end to the human right abuses against Sikhs in Punjab by punishing the former Punjab CM Beant “Singh” on August 31, 1995. During the tenure of Beant “Singh”, the Police was given full authority by the Punjab government to massacre innocent Sikh youths. Extra-judicial killings in fake encounters and enforced disappearances had become common during the tenure of CM Beant “Singh”.
