On eve of Indian I-Day, Khalistan flag hoisted on district headquarter in Punjab

MOGA, Punjab—In a significant development that sent Indian intelligence agencies into a tizzy, two unknown youths hoisted Khalistan’s flag on the terrace of the four-storeyed building of district headquarters of Moga in Punjab, besides raising pro-Khalistan slogans on the eve of independence day of India.

This happened a day after “Sikhs For Justice” (SFJ) announced a reward of USD 2,500.00 (twenty-five hundred dollars) for each one Sikh on the removal of Indian Tricolor and raise Khalistan Flags at their respective Gram Panchayat Ghars on August 15th the upcoming I-Day of India.

Despite the security alert issued by the security agencies of India, two youths managed to reach the terrace and replaced the Indian flag with one with Khalistan written on it. The incident took place at 8.15 am when the administrative complex was about to open and the employees started reaching their office. However, none could notice the activity which remained hitting headlines on all the Indian news channels the whole day on August 14, 2020.

This building also has the office of the Deputy Commissioner (DC), administrative head of the district.

The Moga Police also released its CCTV footage. Another video was released by SFJ leader Gurpatwant Singh Pannu, which shows the two men tearing the Tricolour and escaping with it. After noticing it, the Policemen immediately removed it and hoisted the Indian flag.

Launching a hunt for the youths behind this act, the Police also announced rewards for giving information about them. An eyewitness who also gave his interview to some TV channels to brief the incident was taken into custody as police suspect his involvement in the incident.

On the other hand, the Indian agencies are on toes as the SFJ also announced to hoist the Khalistan’s flag on Red Fort at Delhi on August 15, from where Indian Prime Minister addresses the people of whole India every year.

Ever since the SFJ launched a campaign for what it calls “referendum for Khalistan”, the Sikh youths are becoming targets of the Indian security agencies. In Punjab, many Sikh youngsters have been arrested under the draconian laws like Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) by the Punjab Police and National Investigation Agency (NIA).

The Punjabi Ekta Party (PEP) president and Bholath MLA Sukhpal Singh Khehra along with other rebel MLAs of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and former AAP Patiala MP Dr. Dharamvira Gandhi are raising voice against the oppression being carried out by the state on the innocent Sikhs in the name of reviving “terrorism” in Punjab. Besides, Giani Harpreet Singh, SGPC-appointed acting Jathedar of Akal Takht, also ordered the SGPC to pursue cases of these youths.
