Punjabi novelist Jaswant Singh Kanwal is no more…

CHANDIGARH, Punjab—Renowned Punjabi Novelist Jaswant Singh Kanwal has passed away today. He was 101 years old and was living in his native village Dhuddike of Moga district.

Jaswant Singh Kanwal was born on June 27, 1919. He was a novelist, short story writer and essayist of the Punjabi language.

His novels “Lahoo Di Lo”, “Khoon Ke Sohle Gaaviye Nanak”, “Pooranmashi”,”Saade Dost Saade Dushman” are very popular. 

Jaswant Singh Kanwal was awarded Sahitya Akademi Fellowship for his 1996 book Pakhi. He also received the Sahitya Academy award for Taushali Di Hanso in 1998. In 2008, he was conferred upon the degree of Doctor of Literature (Honoris Causa) by Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar, for his contribution to Punjabi literature.
