Jaggi Johal and other Sikh youths discharged in Bajakhana case

CHANDIGARH, Punjab—A Faridkot based Court of an additional session judge Rajesh Kumar today dropped all charges of Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA) and Arms act against Scottish Sikh youth Jagtar Singh in an FIR No. 63/2017 in the Bajakhana police station. Notably, two other Sikh youths named Jagjit Singh Jammu and Tarlok Singh Laddi were also indicted in this case.

The Court had held debate over these charges leveled by the police in the previous hearing but pronounced its verdict today.

Sharing the development with media, the defense counsel Advocate Jaspal Singh Manjhpur informed that this case was initially registered under FIR No. 193/2016 against Gurpreet Singh at Baghapurana. Later, the police also inducted the names of other Sikh youths, including Jagtar Singh Johal in this case.

After this, the Bajakhana police also registered an FIR No. 63/2017 against Jagtar Singh Johal, Taljeet Singh Jimmy, Jagjit Singh Jammu and Tarlok Singh Laddi, and the charges of case registered in Bajakhana police station under FIR No. 193/2016 were copy pasted in this case.

“We had challenged the chargesheet in the court by pointing out the duplication of charges and thus double jeopardy,” he informed while adding that the Court appreciated their arguments and discharged all the Sikh youths indicted in this case.

Advocate Jaspal Singh Manjhpur further informed that the NIA’s chargesheets are also copy-paste versions of Baghapurana case.
