Beadbi Continues as Ten Saroops Burnt In Village Near Zira

ZIRA, Punjab—In an unfortunate incident, ten saroops of Sri Guru Granth Sahib were burnt at village Behak Fattu near Zira.  The incident allegedly took place due to short circuit in electric wiring.  The granthi Singh was absent from him duties when the incident took place.

After speaking with local villagers, Sikh24 learned that an electrician had repaired a fan in the Gurdwara Sahib on morning of April 29.  As the appointed Granthi was suspended recently from his services by the village Panchayat, no one was at the Gurdwara Sahib when the incident took place.

Deputy Commissioner DPS Kharbanda, SSP Manminder Singh, along with other senior officials immediately rushed to the Gurdwara.  After collecting preliminary reports about the incident, Deputy Commissioner DPS Kharbanda ruled out the possibility of foul play behind the incident.  “It was clear to me that this incident is not a result of foul-play, rather a short circuit,” he said.

“Villages feel that it could be a result of foul-play, hence we have registered an FIR against unidentified miscreants,” he added.

That saroops that were damaged have been sent to Goindwal Sahib for cremation.  Police officials accompanied the local Sikh sangat in transporting the saroops to Goindwal Sahib.  Local sangat in large numbers recited Sri Sukhmani Sahib and performed Ardas upon reaching Sri Goindwal Sahib.

Provincial Akali MLA Hari Singh Zira has sought an investigation into the case.

Bhai Sukhjit Singh Khose of Guru Granth Sahib Satkar Committee said, “This is utterly disgusting and saddening.  Either our Gurdwaras are not equipped to take care of Guru Granth Sahib saroops, or we are being fooled about short circuits.”  He questioned why short circuits take place only at Gurdwaras and not other places.

Bhai Khose stated that there could be a controversy over the short circuit at the Gurdwara and no incident involving sacrilege of Guru Granth Sahib should be treated loosely.

  1. I agree with you we must protect our Guru Granth Sahibji in its present form that we worship.
How ever when we transform our selves into “SPACE FARING PEOPLE”

in what form do you propose to take our ” Guru Granth Sahibji”

    • First of all as I have told you many times Sikhs do NOT worship Guru Granth Sahib but rather revere Him as a student respects and learns from his teacher (Guru). We ‘worship’ Waheguru alone through the Gurbani (the word of the Guru) contained within Guru Granth Sahib. It was the same when the ten human Gurus were sitting in the darbar with the Sikh sangat all about them listening to their words in order to bring them closer to God. It is really important you understand the difference as worshipping of the Guru is akin to idolatory. The written word on paper has proven itself to traverse centuries – if you go into space no reason why you would not take Guru Granth Sahib’s saroop with you and treat it exactly with the same respect which connects you not only with the Gurbani but also with the traditions linking Sikhs to their forebears down the centuries. What use is Gurbani stored electronically when you run out of batteries?

  2. We must have our Guru Granth Sahib on Electronic form so that it wont be burnt or desecrated .
    We must have a

    “ELECTRONIC GURU GRANTH SAHIBJI”

    • You can already get daily Hukamnama electronically by Apps. As for the entire Guru Granth Sahib being transferred only to electronic form so that his body will not be burnt or desecrated this would not only hand victory over to those who committing this politically motived sacrilege by making Gurdwaras redundant but also allow them to to then adulterate the Gurbani online. As manpreet on Sikhnet has already observed also ‘Theoretically there is nothing stopping this, but think about the difference in overall experience it would result in. To better understand, imagine how would you feel if you only have a picture of your parents or get to interact with them only on Skype. Compare this with the experience you get when you meet them in person. I think its a matter of comfort and enhanced experience that makes printed version of Guru Sahib preferred than a digital version. Also I can’t imagine the scenarios where an ebook reader device may hang or force reboot for updates especially when hukamnama is being taken. Would cause lot of inconvenience and confusion.’ The answer is to STOP the desecration of our Guru’s saroop not run away to avoid the issue.
