Sikh Racism Awareness Campaign – #ChangeTheStory

As Sikhs, we don’t need to be reminded that this year has been marked by ugly rhetoric and paranoia about religion in America. The voices of religious intolerance are louder than ever, and the story they’re telling has created suspicion of our neighbors and division in our communities.

This narrative is one of the reasons why the National Sikh Campaign led the development of the ‘Know Your Neighbor’ coalition, which launched at the White House last December. The coalition brings together religious and non-religious traditions to work towards an America were everyone feels accepted.

This winter, our coalition, led by Interfaith Youth Core, is working to change the narrative. Will you join us?

Let’s change the story from one of conflict and suspicion to one of unity. Tell us about the positive ways you’ve engaged with America’s religious diversity (or want to) and share that story online using #ChangeTheStory

Here are some story ideas to get you started:

  • One interaction has the power to change a life, an opinion, or a worldview. Share a personal story about how an interaction with “the other” changed your life, thinking, or action in a positive way.

  • The world has problems and interfaith cooperation can be a solution. Share your ideas for how people of different traditions can work together to solve our most urgent problems.

  • No matter where you are, we promise that someone near you is afraid to be their whole self because of their religious identity. Stand against intolerance and share your message of support with them.
