IMG-20160128-WA0019LUDHIANA, Punjab—President of the United Akali Dal and one of the chief organizers of ‘Sarbat Khalsa-2015’ event, Bhai Mohkam Singh has been released from the Ludhiana jail. It is notable that way to his release was paved with grant of bail by the Baba Bakala court in a case pertaining to blockage of bridge over the Beas River. The bridge connecting Majha-Doaba in Beas was blocked by the Sikh activists following the serial incidents of Guru Granth Sahib’s desecrations across Punjab around mid-October of 2015.

Earlier, Bhai Mohkam Singh was also granted bail by the Punjab & Haryana High Court in a case framed against him under sedition charges but he couldn’t be released due to an FIR pending against him in e-division police station of Amritsar.

Later, he was also granted bail in this case by the Amritsar Court.  The Punjab government tried its best to keep him behind the bars.

Finally, now after Bhai Mohkam Singh’s release, other Sikh leaders indicted under sedition charges after Sarbat Khalsa too have a chance at their release.  Bhai Papalpreet Singh, who is termed as the brain behind Sikh activism in the FIR against ‘Sarbat Khalsa-2015’ organizers, is currently absconding.

Bhai Mohkam Singh Visits Bapu Surat Singh

As Bhai Mohkam Singh is also part of the Bandi Singh Rehaii Sangharsh Committee, after his release, he also visited Bapu Surat Singh Khalsa at the DMC Hospital.  It is important to mention that Bapu Surat Singh continued his protest, despite the absence of the entire Sangharsh committee, and was able to get release of various political prisoners.  Following the arrest of the Sangharsh Committee members, a new committee was formed, which has been working towards Bapu Surat Singh’s goals.
