A video has surfaced online in which a self-styled “Baba” is seen sitting higher than the sangat. The height of ignorance is exposed in the video as the baba’s own kirtanis sing the following Shabad:
ਕਹਾ ਭਯੋ ਜੋ ਦੋਊ ਲੋਚਨ ਮੂੰਦ ਕੈ ਬੈਠਿ ਰਹਿਓ ਬਕ ਧਿਆਨ ਲਗਾਇਓ ॥
What is the point if one closes their eyes and sits hypocritically in a posture of meditation like a heron;
ਨ੍ਹਾਤ ਫਿਰਿਓ ਲੀਏ ਸਾਤ ਸਮੁਦ੍ਰਨਿ ਲੋਕ ਗਯੋ ਪਰਲੋਕ ਗਵਾਇਓ ॥
And goes abroad bathing in the seven seas? He has lost this world and after death is deprived entry in the next world.
Gurbani is given the utmost respect by Gursikhs. When someone is reciting or singing Gurbani, no one should sit higher than those reciting it.
In this video, the fake Baba is seen sitting on a bed, much higher than the Sangat, while the kirtanis are signing the above Shabad. However it seems like the kirtanis got the best of the Baba as the Shabad they are singing is ridiculing those that sit with their eyes closed, pretending to meditate (which is exactly what the Baba is doing). The Baba is so engrossed in his hypocrisy he doesn’t realize what the kirtanis are doing.
In past dacade, Panth has witnessed a rise in self-styled Godmen or Babas. These men are stating their own cults and sending disillusion messages to their congregations. The Panth needs to take a stand and rid itself of these fake Sants.
The following quote by Sardar Kapur Singh, National Professor of Sikhism resonates this issue:
“…The Young Khalsa now must actively undertake to deliver the Sikh masses from the slavery of spiritual charlatans, called the sants…”
I never understood why we have sant. The greatest of khalsa from the times our our gurus were seen as Bhai. Brothers. Equals! The panj pyare were all Bhai! the first sant and worthy of the title was Sant baba deep singh who only received the title in death and never was addressed as sant ji. and yet today these ugly fake babey who wont even tell us the truth let alone fight or die for us get sooooo much more respect then we even give to our guru. how sad!
There are many with long long beards-assume these are khalsa…where was their mentality and common sense???Did someone had no audacity to ask and question this stupidy?
the saddest thing is that the only reason immigrants cut their hair and chose different last names instead of singh on their passport application was because they were allowed out of india in the 80’s only if they played by those oppressive rules. getting your visa and passport otherwise was next to impossible. all because of the racism and anti-Sikh climate of the era.
imagine being in your late teens, leaving behind your family and Punjab which is in chaos, police killing innocent college kids, innocent cops and hindus being murdered, the media and government fanning flames of hatred and pointing fingers at any Sikh who stands up for logic and open dialogue. cops and federal officers planting evidence and weapons in the homes of prominent civil rights activists of the era. police arresting and torturing the mothers and daughters of accused/alleged “terrorists”. the entire climate in India created a WAR ON SIKH IDENTITY IN PUBLIC.
now today we all see everyone having no problem with shorn hair and tattoos even. these idiots show up to the gurudwara proud to be disrespecting the guru and all those who chose death over giving up their Sikh identity in public.
