The arrest of the 66 year old former Brookside Gurdwara president occurred on July 14. He had originally faced charges of aggravated assault in connection to a domestic dispute on July 13. The charges were later upgraded to attempted murder.
Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) were called to the Surrey home where they found Narinder Kaur Kalsi suffering from life-threatening injuries.
Kalsi was removed from his position as president of the Gurdwara after he was charged.
Kalsi failed to appear at Surrey provincial court last Wednesday due to injuries caused by an inmate who attacked him. He was taken to hospital with facial injuries.
Police do not believe the incident is linked to Kalsi’s alleged involvement in the homicide.
