Sikhs celebrate birth anniversary of Sant Bhindranwale

Janam din of Sant BhindrawaleFATEHGARH SAHIB, Punjab—Sikh organizations including Shiromani Akali Dal (Amritsar) on Friday celebrated 69th birth anniversary of Shaheed Sant Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale at Gurdwara Fatehgarh Sahib here.

To mark the day, a massive religious function was held which was attended by Sikhs in a huge number. Once again, the Sikhs demanded right to self determination for which Sant Bhindranwale undertook struggle. The sky echoed with slogans: “Sant Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale-Zindabad and Khalistan-Zindabad”.

It may be recalled that in first week of June 1984, the Indian army attacked Darbar Sahib with an intention to to press voice of Sikhs forever. Sant Bhindranwale had attained martyrdom while fighting against the Indian troops. He had been conferred title of ‘20th century’s great Sikh’ by the Sikh nation from Akal Takht Sahib. The attendees were also seen carrying flags with slogans of “Khalistan Zindabad” during the function.

Addressing the function, SAD (A) president Simranjit Singh Mann said that people of every section would enjoy freedom irrespective of religion and castes. He termed the ruling Shiromani Akali Dal (Badal), BJP and Congress as enemies of Sikh nation and latter should conscious about them. “Atmosphere of Punjab is peaceful, still the union government is misleading the people and there is Hindutva agenda behind it.

He also appealed the Sangat to participate human chain being carried out from village Bargari to Fridkot town on February 27.
