Sangrur Residents Campaign To Remove Liquor Booth From Bus Stand

SANGRUR, Punjab—Residents of village Gharachon (Sangrur) have been campaigning to remove a theka (liquor booth) from the bus stand.

It is becoming common for liquor booths to open in public places in Punjab.  In past few years, these types of small shops have come up almost in every corner in Punjab.  These villagers have been struggling to seek the theka removed from the bus stand, and the Government has not paid any attention to their requests.

Manpreet Singh of village Gharachon informed Sikh24 that villagers have been campaigning since April 1 to remove the theka.

Since these people started the dharna, the theka was forced to shut down temporarily.  However they are asking for a permanent closure.
