Sikh24 uses the term appointed Jathedar in order to remind readers that the current Jathedar of Akal Takht Sahib is not selected by Sarbat Khalsa, a democratic caucus assembled for such a purpose as our Gurus invisioned, but rather is chosen and replaced at will by politicians in the SGPC and Punjab Government.

The Jathedar is appointed due to political winds and what is convenient for those in office at the time. This is not to say that Sikh24 does not endorse or support Akal Takht Sahib or advocate disrespect of the current Jathedar, it is a reminder to be weary and continue the struggle to reinstate Sarbat Khalsa.
